Installation
To install a mini split air conditioner, a hole about 3 inches in diameter is made in a wall of your house. The hole is made to provide the place for the tubing that connects the indoor and outdoor units. Usually, the hole doesn’t exceed 3 inches in diameter, although the exact size is determined by how far apart the compressor and the air handler are placed. The installation is performed by professionals and requires drainage, electricity and lines for the coolant. Coolant is a liquid charged in the conditioner and used for preventing machines from getting too hot.
Air handlers can be installed in different part of the house. The best way to achieve maximum cooling is to equip each room with a separate air handler. Sometimes, however, one air handler can be enough, when you have a lot of open space, where the air can circulate freely.
Before heading for your mini split air conditioner to the nearest store, you need to have the size of the area to be cooled measured. From here there you will have a better feel as to how many BTUs are necessary to cool the entire house.
Cost
As far as costs go, a mini split system is quite expensive. The only reason is that it requires professional installation. However, with the compressor being placed outside the home, noise coming from the working unit is minimized inside.
