Usually, the hole doesn’t exceed 3 inches in diameter, although the exact size is determined by how far apart the compressor and the air handler are placed. The installation is performed by professionals and requires drainage, electricity and lines for the coolant. Coolant is a liquid charged in the conditioner and used for preventing machines from getting too hot.

Air handlers can be installed in different part of the house. The best way to achieve maximum cooling is to equip each room with a separate air handler. Sometimes, however, one air handler can be enough, when you have a lot of open space, where the air can circulate freely.

Cost

As far as costs go, a mini split system is quite expensive. The only reason is that it requires professional installation. However, with the compressor being placed outside the home, noise coming from the working unit is minimized inside.
